ALL ABOUT US

Bunge Bees was founded in 2019, starting as a weekend hobby. This quickly turned into a passion and the apiary expanded more year by year and continues to be a great after-work commitment.

From honey jars to lip balm, every single product we sell is healthy, locally-produced and of the highest quality.  We enjoy the world of honey bees, and are committed to raising awareness about the importance of the bees. Browse our site to learn more about our vision, our mission, and our exciting activities.

We've slowed down this summer with our baby daughter, but every single purchase of a Bunge Bees product goes directly into her college fund.

WE'VE BEEN BUSY!

EXTRA DETAILS

Bunge Bees is essentially a hobbyist apiary that has a little extra honey and wax products to sell every year and while we are exempt from product licensing requirements, we still follow Maple Syrup and Honey licensing exemptions and other Michigan Cottage Foods requirements. Additionally, we often have enough surplus to sell gallon+ quantities of honey for use by vendors and mead-makers.

MAPLE SYRUP AND HONEY LICENSING EXEMPTIONS

All Bunge Bees honey products are exempt from Michigan food licensing, however for labeling requirements:

Products were made in a facility that has not been inspected by the Michigan Department of Agricultural & Rural Development

ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

The apiary is located on the bank of the Grand River near heavily wooded areas and farmland. Natural Oxalic Acid Vapor treatments are used when honey supers are off before spring buildup and after summer honey harvest to mitigate Varroa mites.

The bees themselves are a local mix (Michigan Mutts)  that appear to have Italian and Saskatraz behaviors.

Each coloney is either a 10-frame or an 8-frame Langstroth hive with the larger colonies needing to be harvested twice each summer to maintain a manageable honey super count.
